Inside the Corner Pink House

“Inside the Corner Pink House” is an illustrated artist’s book, published in 2024 by The Muse multi studios. This intimate work, formatted as a hardcover book (15 cm x 10.5 cm, 120 pages), explores themes of memory, displacement, and adaptation through the lens of a symbolic character known as the “Girl with fat belly,” a recurring figure in Aljeally’s artistic practice. The project reflects on the emotional resonance of personal possessions and everyday items, which serve as metaphors for life in its most raw and relatable form.
Created in response to the upheaval caused by the ongoing war in Khartoum, the book traces the protagonist’s nostalgic journey into her past, revisiting memories of childhood, home, and belonging while navigating the challenges of building a new life in a foreign land. Through a blend of illustration, collage, and narrative, Aljeally captures the delicate interplay between loss and preservation, evoking a sense of vulnerability and introspection. The “Corner Pink House” itself symbolizes a space of personal history, a repository of dreams and experiences that transcend physical boundaries.
Funded by the Goethe-Institut’s Next Level Production Fund, the project was launched alongside a solo exhibition at Bibliothek Art Gallery in Cairo, Egypt, in February 2024. Aljeally’s work invites viewers to engage with universal themes of identity and resilience, emphasizing the power of art to document and reinterpret personal and collective experiences. By focusing on the nuances of individual stories, “Inside the Corner Pink House” offers a subtle yet profound meditation on the meaning of home and the enduring nature of memory.

The book was launched at a solo exhibition holding the same title at Bibliothek art gallery, Cairo, Egypt, February 2024.
